Pizza Brats

For the pizza brats

  • 1 pkg. (5 piece) Italian Sausage 
  • 1 bell pepper, julienne
  • 1 sweet onion, julienne
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup black olives
  • 1-15 oz can pizza sauce
  • 3/4 cup beer
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, grated
  • 15 pepperoni slices
  • olive oil 
  • 1 tsp Steak Salt

For the garlic butter brat buns

  • 5 brat buns
  • 5 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan 
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat add a drizzle of olive oil. Add brats and brown on all sides then remove from skillet and set aside. 
  2. To the pan add the mushrooms and sauté until browned about 5 minutes, next add the onions and bell pepper.  Cook until softened about 5-7 minutes.  Season with Steak Salt and add garlic.  Stir to combine and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Return brats to the skillet, add beer, olives and pizza sauce. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer and cover.  Remove from heat once brats are cooked through about 15-20 minutes. 
  4. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Baste the inside of brat buns with butter and sprinkle with parmesan and Italian seasoning.  Bake until browned about 10 minutes.  
  5. Assemble:  Add a brat to each garlic bread brat bun, top with pizza sauce mixture, next add mozzarella cheese and 3 pepperoni.  Bake in the oven until cheese is melted, about an additional 10 minutes.
